Miracles for Fun 2!

Last September we held the Miracles for Fun Golf Tournament as a fundraiser for our friend Brad Wims.  As his friends, we were seeking to give him every chance to survive into a good and godly old age! We wanted to help him overcome the obstacle of cancer. Brad fought bravely. All of his friends and family were so impressed with his faith and positive spirit. Sadly, he lost that battle with cancer on Monday, March 2, at the age of 34.

As his friends, we are still trying to help Brad finish his race. We have decided to help raise money for Brad’s family with a second golf tournament and a benefit concert. Our goal is to build a college fund for Zeke and Kaelyn Wims. Brad’s job as a father would be to launch his children into a fine future. It was work that he had to leave personally undone. He was entrusting the future of his children to the grace of God. We are inviting you be a part of finishing Brad's work in preparing for Zeke and Kaelyn's future.

Please join us on November 7, 2009 for the 2nd Annual Miracles for Fun. The golf tournament will be held in the morning at Eagle Point Golf Club in Mont Belvieu, TX. We are also very excited to be organizing a benefit concert that evening at Southeast Church of Christ featuring the a cappella music of Vocal Union.

Spring Sing

Cameron participated in his last Spring Sing at the Vine last Thursday (May 21, 2009).  Next year he'll be at Friendswood Christian School.  It's kind of hard to see where he is in this picture, but since he's a shorty and the young lady in front of him was tall it was hard to get a good shot.  I'll have to see if I can figure out how to add an arrow to the pic.

This is Cameron's girlfriend Reagan that he plans to marry one day.  They are so cute when they get excited to see each other.  Her mom told me that Reagan is sad that Cameron won't be in her class next year.  I don't think that Cam has really grasped yet what it means to go to a new school, so he doesn't know that she won't be there.  They will get to see each other on Sunday mornings, which is a big plus.

Help in the Kitchen

The kids love to be in the kitchen with me and are such a great 'help' when I'm making dinner.  Last Wednesday we put together cupcake jars (http://www.joyshope.com/2009/04/mason-jar-cupcakes.html) for Cam's teachers and so forth up at The Vine.  Don't worry, we didn't use anything after the kids licked it.

As 'helpful' as the kids can be in the kitchen, I really am looking forward to the day when I can have them cook me dinner and I can just sip a glass of wine and watch.

Maggie's New Chair

I've been on a serious hunt lately for a chair for Maggie.  She loves sitting in Cam's little rocker, however she's a bit unstable and usually topples it over.  She has also been climbing up in our chairs and getting comfortable too.  

Some of this climbing I attribute to the amazing Zachary.  He showed her how to do it the other week and she's really taken to it.

So today I was walking through Target and thought, I'll go check out their furniture section.  Lo and behold I found the perfect chair for Maggie's room.  It's lavender, gingham, seersucker, and frilly.  I had to call Chris to get the okay to buy it and I was able to talk him into it.  Maggie was so excited when we got home.  She has been crawling up and down on it and sitting and watching what everyone is doing.

Mother's Day for the Moms

We were so blessed on Mother's Day to have both of our moms in town.  We went out to eat on Saturday and then headed back to the house so we could give them their presents.  Back in February I had Tricia (myclaymemories.com) create two plates especially for Mother's Day.  

My mom loves hummingbirds and hibiscus flowers, so Tricia and her mom were able to take Maggie's foot and make it a hummingbird and Cameron's hand into a hibiscus flower. 

Nana loves Texas themed items, so we were lucky that Tricia already had a plate designed that fit the bill.  It was intended to have one Maggie hand and one Maggie foot, and then one Cameron hand and one Cameron foot.  However, Maggie did not want anything to do with the paint being on her hands.  She was very angry with us when we tried to convince her otherwise.  So Nana's plate has two Cameron hands and two Maggie feet.  

I think both grandma's were very excited about their gifts.  It was a great way to capture the kids.  I'm really hoping I get a chance to make a plate for myself sometime this year as well.  I just love the handprints and footprints idea.

Cam's T-ball Game

Cam's last t-ball game was supposed to be this week, however they've had 2 rainouts so we've got 2 more weeks to go.  Grandma and Pawpaw came to town to watch our little slugger play with his team, the Raptors.

Our trophies aren't in yet, so I offered to make certificates for the coach to hand out at our party after the game.  Unfortunately our Coach couldn't make the game, but his wonderful wife handed out the "awards" to each kid.  

Hand, Foot & Mouth

So Maggie has had Hand, Foot, & Mouth disease,  which is why she's been so darn cranky this week.  I hate that I didn't know that's why she was not feeling good.

Luckily we were able to get into the dr. office on Friday morning and get some medicine to make her feel better.  By Saturday morning she was starting to act like her normal self, much happier and eating a lot more.  She does, however, have a bit of a cough that I'm hoping goes away quickly.  

Sick Baby

Maggie's been a bit off and not feeling well since Tuesday night.  She's had fever off and on, been very cranky and not sleeping or eating well.  At first I just thought it was teething - there are 3 teeth breaking through (finally I might add).  However since the fever was up and down, similar to Z & K this weekend, I was thinking maybe a virus.  However the fever has staved off since early this morning, she's still just miserable and not sleeping well.  So maybe teeth.  

I feel terrible for her, you can tell she's just doesn't feel good.  It probably didn't help that she sat in the grass this afternoon and got a spray of chigger bites on her feet and hands.  I mean this girl cannot catch a break. 

So, what to do with her?  I'm just not sure.  I don't think she's in need of a doc, but I may be after I have another night without sleep.  I've bounced around between my bed, the twin in her room and of course the rocker.  Anything to help her feel more comfortable and get some sleep so she'll feel better.  It's not doing much for me, but I think that's why caffeine was invented.

On a side note, I have completely stopped breast feeding and that's been going fairly well.  Maggie doesn't seem to be bothered by it and I've only leaked a few times.  Just in time to not have to worry about those pesky teeth.

Lowe's Projects

Cam's been so lucky to have his Pops work at Lowes.  Even when we miss the bi-monthly build, Pops makes sure Cam and Kaiden get a kit to complete at home.  Recently the projects have been garden centered, so we've been painting the pieces and putting them in our front garden. 

First we painted the flower rain gauge.  

Then we put it together.

Finally, we 'planted' the flower.  

Cam is so excited to go out and check his rain gauge every day.  As typical of Houston this time of year, the gauge is getting plenty of use.  

After the flower project, we also worked on a birdhouse.  For some reason I don't have any pictures of that project, but I'll get a shot of it in the tree.  Cam is very determined that a bird has to build a nest in the house.  He even went so far as to chase a dove in our yard.

Tent Day

Our friend Owen came over to hang out with us while Lisa went to sign big brother up for baseball.  We used the time to make a 'tent' out of my table and bed comforters.  

Earlier in the day Maggie was making good use of her bouncy seat.  I'm on the hunt for a rocking chair for her, preferably upholstered.  She seems to really enjoy sitting in ours and I just thought one her size would be super cute.

Here's the tent.  When I sent a pic to Chris he said "Oh we used to do that with our bunk beds."  So a bit of nostalgia for him.
